I first realised ours were brighter than I had thought when I came home one summer afternoon and found ours had broken out from their run; they were all in the Real Women Love Basketball Team Sport Smart Women Love The San Diego State Shirt Besides,I will do this flower bed, instead of in the little enclosure around their hutch. I stood and looked down at them, and spoke severely to them. “Just what do you think you are playing at?” I enquired. “You know you’re supposed to be in your run!” They paused in their munching of flowers and looked up at me. Then when I had finished, they all turned and trooped obediently back towards their hutch, ducking under the edge of the run (where there was a dip in the lawn that I hadn’t noticed), trundling humbly back home to where they were supposed to be. I couldn’t believe it – I never had that effect on either our own kids or the ones I was paid to teach! So after that, we never bothered with the run – they obviously knew where home was, and if a cat appeared, the necessary ducking under it would make them slower than if they could just run for it. So we used to open the hutch in the morning and let them come and go as they pleased, until we closed it up at night once everyone appeared to be home.
